LASH FACTS

eye·lash /ˈīˌlaSH/ noun -

EACH OF THE SHORT CURVED HAIRS GROWING ON THE EDGES OF THE EYELIDS, SERVING TO PROTECT THE EYES FROM DUST PARTICLES.

  • On average, we each have between 60-150 eyelashes per eye, distributed in 1-5 staggered rows across the eyelid, aka ‘eyelash or lash line’.

  • Eyelashes are our eyes’ protective & external sensory structures. They keep dirt, sweat, debris, pollen, allergens, etc. from entering our eyes.

  • Eyelashes grow & develop shape in phases. There is an active growth period (ANAGEN), a transitional period (CATAGEN) & the resting period (TELOGEN)

  • Each lash’s individual cycle is 3-6 weeks.

  • We naturally lose 2-5 lashes every single day. Additionally, seasonal shifts, stress levels, surgeries & medications can drastically affect our hair growth cycles.

  • Eyelashes can be styled. Whether you use mascara to darken, applying strip lashes to add temporary texture, or getting extensions put on for oomph, lashes are certainly a long standing favorite accessory in our personal styling handbag. Parisians & Egyptians have been noted to have styled their lashes as early as the 1800s. Some tools have been found & are preserved in museums!

  • Eyelashes can be a habitat for tiny mites called Demodex (who live in the hair follicles on our face). Almost everyone has some of these microscopic mites, which generally cause no harm. But, too many can cause a skin condition called DEMODICOSIS, which is itchy, irritating & contagious. Presence of abundant lash mites will require a trip to the Dr., a removal & break from your eyelash services.

  • When applied & maintained properly, eyelash extensions will not damage your natural eyelashes. Lash extensions don’t damage your naturals… Poorly applied & maintained extensions however, CAN.

  • When serviced properly, an eyelash lift will not damage your natural eyelashes.
